Dental Cleanings
Biannual dental cleanings in Tampa FL are essential for your long-term oral health. While brushing and flossing at least twice a day at home is important, the biannual exam is an opportunity for our hygienists to remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria that you may not be able to detect. You also have your teeth and gums inspected by Dr. David Goldschein to see if you have any oral health issues that require attention.
What to Expect at Your Biannual Dental Cleaning and Exam
The first thing our hygienist does is place a piece of cloth over your chest to protect your clothing from stains. If you are receiving a dental X-ray, which we typically take at every other cleaning and exam, you will wear a lead apron to ensure that the mercury does not affect you. Our hygienist will need to place pieces of thin cardboard in your mouth to isolate certain teeth, which allows us to get the most accurate picture of what is happening with your oral health.
Next, our hygienist removes plaque, tartar, and bacteria from your teeth by scraping them off or using a small instrument that sends vibrations to your teeth. The hygienist then polishes your teeth and uses dental floss to remove any remaining food particles stuck between them.
Dr. Goldschein inspects your teeth and gums for the final part of your exam. If he notices a problem, such as tooth decay or a crack in a tooth, he will recommend follow-up treatment. Without biannual exams, your oral health issue could go undetected and untreated, which could eventually lead to having one or more teeth extracted.
