Crowns and Bridges
Crowns and bridges in Tampa FL serve multiple purposes, ranging from replacing missing teeth to serving as a support for dental implants. If you think you may need a crown or bridge, please schedule an exam with Dr. David Goldschein at Generations Family and Cosmetic Dentistry as soon as possible.
Dental Crowns
Also known as caps since they fit securely over your tooth, dental crowns contain porcelain, resin, metal, or a combination of porcelain and resin. Dr. Goldschein typically places crowns after completing a root canal and to cover dental implants. Covering a weak, badly decayed, or fractured tooth to save it from extraction is another common use of dental crowns.
What to Expect When Receiving a Dental Crown
To ensure that the crown fits properly over your tooth, Dr. Goldschein needs to remove a portion of the tooth’s enamel. You will receive anesthesia at the start of the procedure to ensure that you remain comfortable. He typically fits patients with a temporary crown and has them return around two weeks later once their permanent and customized crown comes back from our laboratory.
Dental Bridges
This type of restoration fills the gap left by one or more missing teeth. Bridges rely on neighboring teeth for support, so they must be healthy and strong enough before Dr. Goldschein will place a bridge. He affixes small metal equipment that looks like wings to the back of the teeth to the left and right of the missing one. If you have only one nearby tooth for support or your tooth structure is too weak, he will recommend a different type of bridge or another dental restoration.
We invite you to schedule an appointment to learn more about crowns and bridges in Tampa FL, so you can determine if obtaining either restoration is right for you.
