Root Canals
Each one of your teeth contains pulp, nerves, and blood vessels that can become infected and cause you significant pain. Trauma to the mouth and poor oral hygiene are the most common reasons for pain and inflammation.Root canals in Tampa FL remove the diseased pulp to help you to feel better quickly.
Signs You May Need a Root Canal
Determining the source of your tooth pain and what to do about it can be challenging. We encourage you to schedule an exam at Generations Family and Cosmetic Dentistry if you recognize any of the symptoms of tooth inflammation below.
- Discoloration of the affected tooth, which may appear gray or black.
- Persistent tooth pain that does not respond to typical home remedies like non-prescription pain relievers, applying gel to the painful tooth, or holding a hot or cold compress to your cheek.
- Sensitivity to hot and cold foods and drinks.
- Swollen gums and/or pain when you touch the affected tooth.
- The tooth feels loose compared to your other teeth.
- You have a chip or crack in the tooth, which may have allowed the bacteria to invade it.
Having some of these symptoms does not necessarily mean you need a root canal. However, it is likely if you have several persistent symptoms.
What to Expect During Your Root Canal
We prepare you for the root canal by administering anesthesia that blocks your pain receptors. Dr. David Goldschein or one of his assistants also places a piece of rubber called a dental dam in your mouth to keep the tooth dry. He creates a tiny opening in your tooth, removes the infected pulp, and places a crown on the tooth to protect it from future inflammation.
